“REACH” by J’von “CATMAN” Buckley
2025
About The Artist
A 33 y/o Artist raised in Seattle, Washington. Known to be a bit of a polymath, creating across various forms of media including painting, digital art, music, and animation. Father of two girls. Daddy to one woman. Fried rice connoisseur. Generally strange (but chill) guy.
Inspiration Behind The Art
REACH features 3 brown children (and a big cat), holding hands fearlessly traversing a new realm. There is no enemy, no abandonment.
In this painting, Artist J’von (aka CATMAN) explores his influences of fantasy & otherworldliness known as “isekai” in Japanese anime, but as a form of protest. He believes Black people aren’t always afforded the luxury of whimsy and light-heartedness, and that the outright expression of these actively disrupts the subjugation of the mind. REACH touches on Black mobility, community, and no children being left behind. We go it together.
